Probably, you evolved it too quickly. You must wait for you Cyndaquil to level up and eventually learn Ember.

Evolve at 31, Cyndaquil has no trouble up until that point and can hold it's own past that and it learns Lava Plume nice and early that way. The only pokemon I know of that I wouldn't evolve as soon as possible is Growlithe. It learns some VERY good moves at a late level.

That being said, the water-type Oshawott is strong against two out of three of those bosses, fire-type Cyndaquil is strong against one of them, and grass-type Rowlet is strong against ... none of them. If you're looking for a smooth start, Oshawott is a good pick. If you're looking for a challenge, go with Rowlet.

Team Rocket isn't through yet, though, and they go after Ash's last missing Pokémon, Cyndaquil, with a seemingly invincible robot! During the battle, Cyndaquil evolves into Quilava, and uses its newly learned Eruption move to send Team Rocket blasting off a second time.

It's cute in a way more unique to Cyndaquil, with its squinty/closed eyes and a little snoot. Such a round and cute demeanor are contrasted nicely with the violently spiky flames on its back. It's like one of those animals that flare up to look bigger, but with fire.

While Typhlosion is popular among Heart Gold/Soul Silver players, it's somewhat unfavorable in Pokemon Go PvP. A high ATK stat distribution results in low durability which prevents Typhlosion from enduring prolonged fights.

Cyndaquil is stronger against more types than the other starters, which is a plus, but out of all the Types Fire is strong against, only Ice, Fire, and Grass really come up a lot. Chikorita is nice because Water and Electric moves are plentiful in both the game and in Player Vs. Player battles.

Choosing a Cyndaquil, in our estimation, makes the game easiest for you. Of course, you won't be at a huge disadvantage if you choose one of the other two instead (indeed, they will give you advantages in other situations). Which ever starter you choose, your rival will choose the type that is stronger.
